After spending ten years working in the public school systems in Texas and California, an additional three years at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and four years at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Erin Bauer currently teaches courses in ethno/musicology at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio. By combining more traditional practices of musicology with her research activities in contemporary globalization, Dr. Bauer brings a popular connection to historical studies, using what students already know to facilitate a deeper understanding of complex social issues.
Before moving to Wyoming, Dr. Bauer spent five years working with a small group of colleagues to build a new high school and independently developing a successful instrumental music program at Edgewood High School in West Covina, California, where she introduced and led the Jazz Ensemble, in addition to teaching a variety of upper-level math and science classes. Dr. Bauer also taught music at Mt. San Antonio College in Southern California and online through Western Nebraska Community College. While in California, she also served as musical director, accompanist, and vocal coach for a number of school and community theater productions.
